Secrets to Grilling Succulent Swordfish

Grilled swordfish. Just hearing the words can bring a Pavlovian response to most people who have the slightest taste for seafood. But saying it is far easier than actually cooking it.

“Grilling swordfish is an adventure that leaves many backyard cooks shaking their heads in a state of confusion,” says celeb chef Nick Stellino, host of PBS’ “Cooking With Friends” and ambassador for Pompeian. “The key is to never cook the fish steak over direct heat because it scorches the exterior while leaving the interior undercooked.”

Stellino recommends that grillers preheat the entire gas grill (or charcoal) and then shut off half of the grill so that one side cools down. For a charcoal grill, simply push all of the coals over to one side. Then grill the fish steak on the cool side.

“Do not move the fish until it is ready to flip to ensure uniform grill marks,” says Stellino. “Also, use a quality olive oil, like Pompeian Extra Light Tasting Olive Oil, to coat the grill grates and fish. This will help prevent sticking and help keep the fish steak juicy.”

Prepare this Pompeian recipe for Grilled Swordfish with Eggplant-Tomato Relish, and you will enjoy the juiciest of juicy swordfish dinners!

Is Hiring a Freelancer Right For Your Business?

Is Hiring a Freelancer Right For Your Business?
(Three Reasons Say “Yes”!)

The mythical creature known as the freelancer has been around for many years and isn’t anywhere close to extinction. According to the Department of Labor Statistics, there were over ten million independent contractors by 2005 – 7.4% of the U.S. work force. 1.

Who are they?
Freelancers work in almost every industry: construction, translation, finance, management, sales, design and many, many more. They’re your neighbor, your friend, the nice lady down the street, the man in the coffee shop always typing away on a computer. Many surveys indicate that most freelancers are male (according to Labor Statistics, by 2005 about 65% of the freelance population) and over thirty years old.

While many independent contractors work from home, just as many go to physical locations to work, either a private office or wherever the hiring company needs them. They are professionals just like you and I; a large percentage received on the job training or went to college to do what they do. Several hold degrees. Many stayed in typical work environments for over seven years before working for themselves.

In short, freelancers are business professionals who chose to, not work at home, but work for themselves. They are as trained and skilled as an employee would be, if not more so in some instances, and serious about their business.

Is hiring a freelancer right for your business?
Many business owners think hiring a freelancer just won’t work for their particular company. More than a few really do believe that independent contractors are a waste of time, money and resources. However, if this were so, if that basis of thought were true, would there really be ten million freelancers running around? Would anyone who performed contractual jobs even have a business? For that matter, why are freelancers so in demand?

Reason #1: Cost
Monetary considerations are usually in the forefront of any business owner’s mind. Can we afford this? What are the initial costs? What’s the ROI? These thoughts come to mind in every area of business, including hiring a freelancer, but you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.

How much a particular freelancer will cost you depends on several factors: length of the project, difficulty of the project, location of the freelancer and level of technology are just a few. For instance, a freelance web designer may charge $ 30 an hour or $ 1000 for a project no matter how much time they put in. As in any hiring situation, you’ll find those that cost less and those that cost more.

However, the difference between employees and contracted individuals is that the individuals can afford to charge less, and often do. Freelancers usually don’t have to worry about transportation, gas, or clothing (for work) costs. Business owners will not have to pay employee benefits or wage taxes.

In addition, freelancers come from all over the world. Depending on your monetary needs, you can use offshore outsourcing (contractors from out-of-country), national outsourcing or homesourcing (contractors are in your locality).

Reason #2: No direct employees
It isn’t normal practice that a business is built with nothing but freelancers, but it does happen. More than a few Internet-based businesses use strictly freelancers, either on a by-project basis or as a loose-knit company.

One of the main reasons is the lack of direct employees. There are no W-2s to worry about. If a contractor doesn’t perform as expected, there are no hire/fire policies to follow; you just don’t use them again. The working “atmosphere” tends to be more relaxed, while still maintaining professionalism. You are not their boss; you’re their client. It does make a difference.

In addition, there’s no need to hire office space; the Internet is the office space. With collaborative software, VoIP capabilities, email, messenger and many other online programs, it’s extremely easy to create a working atmosphere without the need to be physically there. There are no office politics and no personal dynamics between employees to deal with; the only “requirement” is that they get along with you.

Reason #3: Broad spectrum of specializations
There is, quite literally, a freelancer out there to meet any need. Freelance web designers who offer SEO/SEM2 as well; copywriters who also provide logos; virtual assistants who perform sales work – the list goes on.

Specialization is an excellent tool. Someone who knows web design forwards, backwards and inside out is an excellent resource; if you have all your content, this is the person to hire. If you have the design but need copy, a specialized copywriter will fit your needs. However, if you need website design, copywriting and SEO/SEM, you need a company – or a freelancer who has decided to learn as much as they can of fields related to their chosen area.

So, are freelancers right for you? Are they right for your business? The only person who can answer that is you. However, if you’re looking for ways to tighten the budget, narrow down the issues and broaden that bottom line, look into freelancing. You never know, you may just end up hiring that nice lady down the street.

The Dis And The Coil Pack 101

The phrase “drivers inside the DIS charge and fire the coils” has been around for years, and for many people, it is the only description of how the DIS (‘distributorless ignition system’ module) and coil interact that they’ve heard. It is easy to conclude that the DIS is charging up the coils similar to how a battery charger or generator or alternator charges up a battery, right? Electricity is fed from the alternator, as the source, into the battery as the destination, until that electricity is sent to the starter, as one example. Sounds simple enough, but in the case of the DIS and the coil(s), this conclusion paints a completely incorrect picture. The DIS doesn’t supply any electricity to the coil pack. So why have we heard that it ‘charges and fires’?
The ‘coils’ inside the coil pack are just that…coiled LCD Monitor bundles of wire, that when fed voltage generate magnetic fields. Did you ever make a magnet in school with a wire around a pencil, where you could pick up metal objects as long as some electricity was being passed through the wire? This is also where many people learned that for a ‘circuit’ to work, it had to be connected to a source of electricity in such a way that the electricity could flow between the positive (+) and negative (-) connections…the negative connection is commonly called the ‘ground’. In England they say ‘earth’ – “be sure the circuit is ‘earthed’ “…or grounded – connected to ground means that the circuit is complete or closed.
Ok, enough of school…what about our distributorless ignition systems? In our case, there are circuits made up of primary coils and secondary coils. The primary coils are energized (on), than de-energized (off)…over and over. When their circuits USB Monitor are turned on (connected to ground), then off (disconnected from ground) their magnetic fields collapse. It is this collapse and subsequent influence on the secondary coils that results in the spark to the plugs. With me so far? Good. Moving on… Where do the coils get their electricity from and how are they turned on and off?  Where’s the switch? (Note that Ford loves to switch circuits on and off at the ground or negative side of a circuit, instead of at the positive side. This can make it tricky to troubleshoot circuits unless you know where to look for how the circuit is being triggered, or turned on and off.)
Stay with me. The DIS controls the primary coil circuits in the coil pack by connecting then disconnecting the ground for each primary coil. The coils are fed electricity from the wiring harness at full system voltage, called VBAT by some, which simply means ‘battery voltage’ – positive 12 volts (minimum)…this is simply an electrical source that isn’t shaped or reduced Touchscreen Monitor by any other component. Its hot and nasty and looking for some place to run to. A wire off the engine harness feeds VBAT to the coil pack, where it is then internally sent to each coil bundle (three groups – six coils…three primary and three secondary – one of each per group. Each secondary coil is used to feed two spark plugs).

The Benefits a Screened-In Enclosure Brings to Your Family’s Health, Wealth, and Enjoyment

Have you been thinking of expanding your home to allow for more space, functionality, or even your personal enjoyment? If you are, consider the overall value of adding a screened-in enclosure to your home. Their beauty, versatility, and affordability make them a natural selection for enhancing your home.

You may think of screened-in porches are more of an afterthought when it comes to the look of your home. With innovative technology and design, they have become a beautiful part of the overall look of your home. Screened-in porches can look as if they were absolutely planned into the original home design. Plus, with the growing popularity of having a screened-in enclosure on your home, the value of your home will increase.

The materials used by professional installers are chosen to accommodate such conditions as extreme weather, blunt force, and just everyday use. The use of screen spline makes replacing torn or worn screens a quick and easy repair. Choosing an installer who uses maintenance-free aluminum extrusion and commercial grade fiberglass screen gives you the most durable enclosure system available. It also allows for larger post spacing for limited obstruction and the ability to simply use a power washer to remove any accumulated dirt and debris.

Some consumers are hesitant to use a screened-in enclosure because they enjoy the full sunlight and openness of their open-air deck. To have the best of both worlds, a screened-in enclosure can be constructed under your existing deck, using a waterproofing roof as a sub-floor to your existing deck. This often wasted space will allow you to still enjoy the benefits of the outdoors while protecting you from the rain and offering a cooling shade during extremely hot, sunny days.

Maybe the most important benefit of a screened-in enclosure is the time you will spend with your family outdoors, enjoying the healthy, fresh air. Some other benefits may be reducing stress by taking pleasure in the natural view, or the beauty of nature alone, a comfortable relaxing place to read, visit, work, etc. Not to mention avoiding pesky biting or stinging of insects. Install a ceiling fan to create a nice cool breeze on a hot stagnant day. Once you take the time to consider all the options and benefits a screened-in enclosure adds to your home, you’ll end up asking yourself, Why haven’t I done this yet?

Thinking of having a beautiful screen enclosure installed? North Star Screen Systems is the first place to look. With their experience and attention to detail, all you have to worry about is enjoying your new screen enclosure. Learn more about their screen wall systems or their 10 year warranty.

Cleaning Stainless Steel Tips

Below are a few ideas and Eco friendly tips for cleaning your stainless steel flatware and appliances.

One of the most often overlooked household cleaners available is undiluted white vinegar. It’s an excellent natural source for your cleaning. It’s perfect for dissolving any grease stains as its both non-toxic and will not damage the finish on your stainless steel. Simply take a clean damp cloth and rub the stains with vinegar. Then follow with warm soapy water and your left with a shiny bright pot or pan. This also works well on any utensils as well.
If you find yourself faced with those really stubborn spots, then use a mixture of non-gel toothpaste mixed with ammonia. This should do the trick and is easy to do as well. Just apply the mix with a soft clean cloth and follow with a good rinsing.

Remember any time you are scrubbing a persistent stain on your cookware then to risk damaging or removing the chrome finish always scrub in the direction of the finish. Never against it and do not scrub in a circular motion as well.
If you are finding yourself completely exhausted with your patience being worn then, well then it’s time to try a mild abrasive cleaner. You do want to avoid any harsh chemical cleaners as they could do more damage than good. So I suggest starting with a homemade solution of water and baking soda. Mix these two ingredients together into a paste like creamy consistency. Then rub this cleaning mixture onto your stainless steel with a soft cloth. Rub well (remember to rub with the finish) and rinse thoroughly when finished.
If for some reason this does not work or if you do not want to take the time to make a mixture (as described above) then I recommend a cleaner called “Bar Keepers Friend” which is available at your local grocery store. It’s also economically priced as well. It will make your stainless steel shine like new.

If you’ve chosen large stainless steel appliances for your home such as refrigerator, stove or dishwasher then I suggest cleaning those with a mixture of one part water to one part white distilled vinegar. Simply pour this into a spray bottle and use a clean dry cloth of paper towel to wipe them clean. Of course after you’ve done this it’s also an excellent idea afterwords to apply a layer of stainless steel polish. This way they are protected from attracting dirt and grime.

Quadruple Pack Mastery Card Trick

To carry out this specific easy card trick, take the Ace from each of three red-backed packs and dispose of one of them completely. Place a pair of of the A’s on the back edge of your desk, the ends projecting over it a little bit and conceal these by laying a blue pack in its case above them. Have the three red packs thoroughly shuffled, putting them together as one large pack. Get the blue pack with the 2 undetectable A’s below it and getting back the triple stack rest the blue case on it for the moment leaving the A’s on top.

The subsequent move to perform easy card tricks similar to this one should be to place the triple pack down and also give the blue pack, having it from its case, to your spectator. Turn your back or maybe leave the room. Teach the spectator to get any card from the blue pack as well as put the remaining portion of the pack in his pocket. Ask a 2nd individual to deal a strip of playing cards face down from the triple pack on the table, the second person to halt him anytime and set his blue-backed card face down in the right-hand ending of the row as the last card. A tiny identical variety of cards is next dealt in turn on the back of each card in the row plus the heaps are to be put together by picking up the one first dealt at the left end, putting it over the second, these two on the third etc.

A third person now will take the pack so assembled, cuts some and, having it face up, deals the cards one by one, calling their names while he does so. When he calls the very first AC you begin keeping track of the cards too and including the next AC, the number will be the number originally in each and every heap and the picked out blue-backed card will certainly lie exactly that number of cards from the second AC. You call ‘Stop’ and turn around. Your second spectator names his card, it truly is the one the third spectator possesses in his hands. He turns it over, it has a blue back. Using Educational Toys and Play to Stimulate Toddlers, Thus Relieving Them of Boredom

Once a child [let’s say a girl] is up and walking she takes a lot more of a parents time, needing more interaction from the parent during the day [hopefully the parent can catch a break while she has her usual naps]. Keeping a toddler interested in what you are trying to show/teach her can be impossible 90% of the time, she is so busy listening to and trying out all the new sounds, sights and textures around her that it is very difficult to keep her attention.

I found myself walking around with my son and watching him experience all the different textures and shapes he found in our house, it was quite frustrating trying to get him to pay attention to me, that is till I cam up with the idea of tagging everything [yes everything]. I spent a couple of days writing out the tags [large enough for him to be able to see and hopefully read] and attaching them to the different objects with glue, sticky tape or press stick [up where he could not reach].

Now education was on my side, everything he looked at had a name and by walking around with him I would point at the tag on the chair and say the word – strangely enough he started pointing at a object and then look to me to say the word. Needless to say this young lad fell in love with reading by the age of 4 [his first book was a encyclopedia from a friends son who had used in in his grade 6 class and did not need it anymore] and had the spelling and reading skills of a 8 year old when he started his schooling at age 6.

Oops I have been sidetracked – let me go back to the little girl who is driving her mom nuts while running around, touching and trying to taste everything [please do not think you have a naughty child during this period, she is exploring and learning]

I suggest that you do not force the child to sit with your for periods longer than 10 minutes – until what you are showing her actually starts interesting her.

Get some interesting toys

* alphabet blocks – these can be fun as you can build with them and if you have enough letters you could actually spell out her name or yours etc etc
* large colored balls – roll these to each other, this will increase her motor skills and if you name the color as you roll her language skills will also improve [as well as her knowledge of color]
* toy phones – make sure they can ring but are not too noisy, getting her to know how to use a phone can be both a curse and a godsend. A person never knows when she will have the need to use a phone [mom could slip and not be able to phone for assistance herself]. The downside to this skill is the actual real phone – you will have to teach her the difference between phoning for real and phoning for fun [for the first few weeks she will dial random numbers and talk to imaginary friends]
* stacking rings – a toy designed to teach her about sizes, a relaxing way to educate
* musical instruments/toys – toddlers love music – how often have you seen them start to dance when music plays. Noisy for the parents but hours of educational fun for the child
* activity centers – designed with toddlers in mind, these toys have many different bits that move, buttons that make a animal sound and doors that open and close etc.

I could go on for hours about all the toys that are available to assist in the education and motor skills of a child, so I am going to shift into activities you could do with your child.

Fun Activities for a toddler

* finger painting – hours of messy fun if you could keep the toddlers attention long enough
* water play – in the bath, at last you can have her in one spot for longer than 2 minutes. Give her a small container an let her fill a bigger one – here you could count each one she pours out [you could also get a little wet here if your child has a mischievous streak]
* play dough or plasticine – teaching the little one to make shapes and letting them feel the solidity of the dough and realize it is pliable – quite fun for enhancing creativity in the child
* crayons – teaching them colors and motor skills by getting them to draw and discover the way crayons work
* sand box – all kids need one but please keep it covered with shade cloth when not in use [prevents pets from using it as there sand box] Here you can teach them the art of building sand castles etc

There are many activities you can do with your child, the most important and probably the best for both the parent and the child is going to the park or beach, not only do they learn social skills but spending the day with their mommy and daddy is a real treat for the toddler whose parents spend most of the day out at work. Remember as much as we want our child to learn, we also want her to enjoy life – all work and no play etc. should be every parents motto.
