Here's Dustin From Stranger Things Covering Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam

Here's Dustin From Stranger Things Covering Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam

Gaten Matarazzo, who plays the pudding-loving Dustin on Netflix’s Stranger Things, is a great singer. Remember when we heard him sing the national anthem at a MLB game? He crushed it. He’s also in a band called Work in Progress, and they performed recently on the Jersey Shore at the Stone Pony near where Matarazzo grew up.

He sang on a number of songs, including covers of Foo Fighter’s “Everlong” and “Porch” by Pearl Jam. YouTube user vivalavix was there and recorded Matarazzo and company performing the covers. Also on the setlist was Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar We’re Going Down,” which Matarazzo sang alongside his sister. You can watch that video here on YouTube from user BeccaRaptor94.

Stranger Things Season 2 premiered just before Halloween last year, and it was a huge hit. Incredibly, around one third of the the streamer’s US subscribers watched it. So it’s no surprise that Netflix greenlit a third season, though we don’t know when it’ll premiere or what the story will be.

For more on Season 2, check out GameSpot’s hub for the show to find reviews, theories, and everything else you need to know. In other news, a drummer rips the show’s main theme with this killer cover.

Pokemon Go Finally Launching In One Of The Most Gamer-Rich Countries In The World

Pokemon Go Finally Launching In One Of The Most Gamer-Rich Countries In The World

Pokemon Go has finally been confirmed to launch in China. John Hanke, the CEO of developer Niantic, told Financial Times that the game is coming to the gamer-rich country, though he did not give any indication as to when it would be released. Niantic is working with NetEase to launch Pokemon Go in China. NetEase is a Chinese games company that has also worked with Activision Blizzard to bring World of Warcraft and Overwatch to China.

“We absolutely intend to bring our existing games into China,” Hanke said. “Beyond that, there are opportunities to build games in China, both for China and for the world.”

In addition to Pokemon Go, Niantic continues to operate and support its AR game Ingress. One of its biggest upcoming titles is Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which is also an AR title.

A year ago this month, Reuters reported that Pokemon Go, and other unspecified augmented reality games, are “unlikely to be rolled out in China anytime soon,” due in part to concerns about information security and safety. China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television has decided to work with other branches of the country’s government to “evaluate the game’s risks,” the report said. This decision was motivated by a “high level of responsibility to national security and the safety of people’s lives and property,” the group said.

Specifically, China’s Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association said Pokemon Go’s risks include a “threat to geographical information security and the threat to transport and the personal safety of consumers.”

It appears whatever issues China had with Pokemon Go have been addressed or resolved. It remains to be seen how the Chinese version of Pokemon Go may differ from the western edition; we’ll report back with more information as it’s made available.

Pokemon Go has been linked to car crashes around the world, some of them fatal. The game leverages Google Maps to track your location, which makes some people–and governments apparently–uneasy.

China is a massive market for gaming. In 2014, research firm EEDAR reported that the number of gamers in China surpasses the total number of citizens in the United States.

The Surge Has Split-Screen On A Netflix Show Even Though It Doesn't In Reality

The Surge Has Split-Screen On A Netflix Show Even Though It Doesn't In Reality

The new Netflix show Dark, which is the network’s first German-language original production, includes a scene that features the game The Surge where two people are playing split-screen co-op. The problem? The game doesn’t actually have co-op. Deck13 has now officially responded, explaining that the studio allowed the show’s producers to take some creative liberties to fit the story they were trying to tell.

A Deck13 representative said on Reddit that the Dark producers contacted Deck13 “months” before the show premiered on December 1 about their eagerness to feature The Surge in the show. This was principally because The Surge was developed in Germany. “We agreed and allowed them to even fake a splitscreen if it fitted better for their idea. Some kind of creative rework one could say,” the Deck13 representative said.

The split-screen support for The Surge shown in Dark is fiction, but could it one day become reality for the game with a patch? Don’t get your hopes up. “Technically it’d wreck the console though,” Deck13 said about splitscreen support. Announcing a new feature like split-screen co-op by way of a Netflix show would have been a pretty interesting way to go about it, but if it does ever happen, it sounds like it’ll be through a more traditional manner.

“We’d chose a different way to announce such a feature,” Deck13 said.

The Surge launched in May 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. GameSpot’s The Surge review scored it a 7/10. Reviewer Daniel Starkey said, “The Surge is far from perfect, but none of its problems are deal breakers.”

Who Will Play James Bond Next? “Anything Is Possible” Producer Says

Who Will Play James Bond Next? “Anything Is Possible” Producer Says

Daniel Craig is signed up to play James Bond at least one more time in the upcoming 25th 007 movie that is due for release in November 2019. But who might play the super-spy after Craig retires from the role? That remains to be seen, but now series producer Barbara Broccoli has suggested that aren’t ruling anyone out. Speaking to The Daily Mail, Broccoli said “anything is possible” when it comes to who might play 007 next. She said this in response to a question about if the next 007 actor could be a woman or black.

“These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit,” she said. ‘Anything is possible. Right now it’s Daniel Craig, and I’m very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?”

No Caption Provided

The 25th Bond movie already has a release date of November 8, 2019, but an official title or director remains unknown. In October 2015, Craig said if he were to play Bond again, it would “only be for the money.” A year later, a report claimed that Craig was offered $150 million to star in the next two Bond movies.

Craig has played the British super-spy four times already, in the movies Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. Bond 25, or whatever the movie ends up being called, could be Craig’s last time playing 007. “I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note,” Craig said last year. “I can’t wait.”

Nintendo Delays 64 GB Switch Card Launch To 2019 – Report

Nintendo Delays 64 GB Switch Card Launch To 2019 – Report

Nintendo Switch game cards currently have a capacity of 32 GB, which is potentially limiting for some titles. According to a new Wall Street Journal report, Nintendo is planning to release 64 GB cards for the system, but they won’t launch on time.

The report claims that Nintendo wanted to launch these higher-capacity cards in the second half of 2018 but has now informed developers that they won’t be available until 2019. According to the report, Nintendo ran into “technical issues” with the 64 GB cards.

By comparison, Blu-ray discs for the PS4 and Xbox One can hold 50 GB of data. Nintendo apparently intentionally sought game cards instead of discs for the Switch as part of its effort to make the system more portable, which is one of its defining attributes.

While there is no doubt that downloading games is becoming more and more popular, some still prefer physical media when buying their games. As WSJ explains, publishers are of course aware of this and some US-based companies that produce “data-heavy games” may now delay their titles until the 64 GB cards are released.

Not everyone is enthusiastic about the 64 GB Switch cards, as some “outside developers” told WSJ that the Switch “might not be well-suited to data-heavy titles regardless of whether the 64-gigabyte card is available.”

For context, some of the Switch’s best games, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, weigh in at under 16 GB. Go to WSJ to read the full report.

The Switch launched in March this year and was a quick success. The hybrid console has sold more than 10 million units worldwide.

Watch Doctor Who's New Star Jodie Whittaker Debut In Christmas Special Regeneration

Watch Doctor Who's New Star Jodie Whittaker Debut In Christmas Special Regeneration

Say goodbye to the Doctor and hello to the Doctor. Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi made his official departure from the long-running BBC series at the conclusion of the 2017 Christmas special, capping his three seasons as the titular Time Lord.

With his regeneration imminent, Capaldi’s Doctor didn’t look back on his adventures through space and time, but instead gave advice to his next incarnation. “Never be cruel, never be cowardly,” he says. “And never, ever eat pears!” He also proclaims that hate is always foolish and love is always kind, which is ironic given how crabby and angry Capaldi’s version of the Doctor was early in his tenure on the show.

“Always try to be nice and never fail to be kind,” he says. “And you mustn’t tell anyone your name. No one would understand it anyway. Except children. Children can hear it sometimes, if their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too. Children can hear your name.”

Then, with his old body giving way to regeneration, he offers his final words. “Laugh hard, run fast, be kind,” Capaldi says, words that apply to both the character and the actor stepping into the role. “Doctor, I let you go.”

From there, the golden energy shoots out of his hands and head, making way for Jodie Whittaker–the show’s first female lead ever–to make her first appearance on the TARDIS and her first words as the Doctor. “Oh, brilliant,” she with a smile says after seeing her reflection. Then, with the push of a button, the TARDIS is thrown into chaos as it malfunctions. The Doctor is flung out the door and into the emptiness of space as a fire explodes inside that trademark phone booth, causing it to disappear to somewhere else in space and time.

“To be continued,” the screen then reads. That uncertainty of the future of the Doctor and the TARDIS will remain with Doctor Who fans until the next season of the series debuts. A premiere date has yet to be announced for the new episodes, which see Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall taking over as showrunner.

You can see the full video of the regeneration above. Below, you’ll find a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Capaldi’s final scene, with commentary from now-former showrunner Steven Moffat and director Rachel Talalay.
