How To Wait So It’s Worth It

‘Nothing is ever wasted in the kingdom of God. Not one tear, not all our pain, not the unanswered question or the seemingly unanswered prayers. Nothing will be wasted if we give our lives to God. And if we are willing to be patient until the grace of God is made manifest, whether it takes nine years or ninety, it will be worth the wait.’ Author Unknown Matt Damon, is a respected actor who blazed into movie theatres in Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with childhood friend Ben Affleck. The pair went on to win many accolades including Oscars for their work. Photographs taken at the time capture the look of two friends who cannot quite believe what just happened. Damon has since appeared in many box office hits including The Talented Mr Ripley and a trio of all-action Jason Bourne adventures. This all happened to a guy who as a lonely adolescent, described feeling “such pain in wanting to belong somewhere and not belonging.” Although Matt Damon is a bonafide star according to the Hollywood pecking order, he seems a little bemused by all the buzz. Asked what it’s like to be responsible for the lead role on a Big Budget movie set, he defers to the advice another famous actor once gave him. Damon describes how on big budget set, someone knocks urgently on the door of his trailer, they are always wearing a headset and they say in an urgent voice ‘I’ve got Matt Damon, he’s on his way’. Damon is then hustled passed the film trucks, cranes, and over huge lengths of electrical wiring until he gets to the set. Everyone looks at him, the cameras roll and the Director shouts ‘Action!’ Damon says the advice he got was this… ‘sometimes it’s best not to act.’ In other words, despite all the respnsibilities of the big budget, despite the pressure of working with other big stars and directors, despite the crew who are depending on you to make the take, sometimes you need to be patient and not force the action. Not force a result. You may have spent years with an impossible problem, an unlivable life or an undone dream. The Bible says God that takes the lonely and puts them in a family, He takes the poor and gives them what they lack, He takes the neglected and nurtures them, He takes the weary and refreshes them, He takes the dead and brings life. The Bible also says that He does this according to His will, according to His timing. So…we wait. Despite all our responsibilities, pressure and with everyone watching. Sometimes we need to be patient and not force the action. Not force a result. ‘Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track.’ Proverbs 3 v5-6, The Message He believes in you:)
