GAME-IMPROVEMENT IRONS–PING G15

TECH TALK: A thinner face and a wider sole on the Ping G15 Irons Set  are two noteworthy upgrades from its G10 predecessor. Another one is the reshaped and repositioned custom tuning port that saved seven grams of weight, which designers moved to the perimeter to boost stability.

PLAYER COMMENTS:
(H) “A really easy Ping G15 Irons Set  to swing. You don’t have to force a thing.”
(L) “It looks like something you’d find on your workbench, but the hit is impressive. It’s the most forgiving thing I’ve tried.”
(M) “It has the high trajectory this type of iron demands. I’ve hit good shots with other clubs, but with this I’m hitting exceptional shots.”

HOT: Ping G15 Irons Set Having a wider sole than most clubs in this category comes with an autopilot effect that mitigates operator error. The stronger lofts (as much as 2 degrees less than the G10) add distance, but not at the expense of shots that need full flaps to stop on the putting surface.
NOT: The sole width on the long irons might give pause to those who don’t want the look of a chopper club anywhere near their bag.

Our Testers say:
PROS: One of the top irons tested in its class; reliable, so simple-to-hit, forgiving and accurate; tight dispersion, no shot ever goes too far from its intended line; some testers find Ping G15 Irons Set  to be longer, on average, than their current irons; straight-hitting sticks; handles shots from rough with style; produces repeatable distance (on mis-hits, too) and predictable high, straight ball flight.

CONS: Wide-ish sole and offset require an adjustment period; center hits and mis-hits feel too similar for some panelists; a few testers prefer a bit more shotmaking ability.

From Sports Illustrated Golf+ Equipment Issue
The technology in the Ping G15 Irons Set  produces the high-launch, maximum-forgiveness benefits that most golfers rely on for consistency in their iron play. Stronger lofts and a lower center of gravity result in longer shots without sacrificing the higher trajectory required in a forgiving iron.

The sole of the G15 is slightly wider in design which also helps to pull the CG lower and deeper which helps the golfer to get the ball in the air.
